52nd Annual Figawi Race Weekend
NOTICE OF RACE

Figawi Charities Inc. is the Organizing Authority (OA) of the 52nd Annual Figawi Race, to be held in Nantucket Sound beginning in Hyannis and concluding in Nantucket, during Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-29, 2023.
1. RULES
1.1 The event is governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS); and the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) Regulations, as administered by PHRF New England.
1.2 Figawi is a pursuit race. Every boat starts on her own time according to their PHRF handicap. See additional documentation on yachtscoring.com under Figawi Race Weekend 2023 or figawi.com.

2. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 The sailing instructions will be available online after May 20, 2023 at yachtscoring.com and figawi.com. A copy will be included in each entrant's registration packet.
3. COMMUNICATION
3.1 The online official notice board is located at yachtscoring.com under Figawi Race Weekend 2023.
3.2 All boats shall carry a working VHF radio.
3.3 On the water, the race committee will make courtesy broadcasts to competitors on VHF radio. The channel will be stated in the SIs.
3.4 The race committee may utilize a robocall and text system using the cell numbers from Yacht Scoring registration.
4. ELIGIBILITY and ENTRY
4.1 The event is open to monohull boats with a minimum LOA of 24 feet that have a current year PHRF-NE Rating Certificate with a maximum Cruising Handicap of 225.
4.2 A multi-hull class using PHRF or class rules will be provided if there is sufficient interest. A minimum of three boats are needed to provide a start.

4.5 To be considered an entry in the event the following must be completed by the stated deadlines:
Online REGISTRATION FORM accompanied by complete payment of entry fee
Current year rating certificate from PHRF-NE Fleet Only (see phrfne.org VALID LIST)
Online CREW LIST FORM completed with ACCURATE crew information
4.6 To be BE SCORED IN THE RACE, ALL SKIPPERS must provide an accurate crew list in the Yacht Race Scoring Registration page for their entry. This crew list must be completed before race day. This is an easy thing to do - and is necessary for safety. If your boat has a problem, during a race, we need to know how many people you have on board - and who they are.
4.7 The Figawi Race Committee reserves the right to consider the seaworthiness of any eligible boat and, without prejudice, refuse entry of any boat that it deems unsuitable for the conditions of the race and also limit the total number of entries accepted.
5. ENTRY FEES and DATES
5.1 The entry fee shall accompany the completed entry application.
5.2 Deadline for Entry: MAY 15, 2023 @ 2400

6. ADVERTISING
6.1 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority.
6.2 Competitors are requested to respect the brand exclusivity of FIGAWI OFFICIAL SPONSORS; their participation is part of the overall experience of the regatta.
7. PRELIMINARY SCHEDULE
7.1 Nantucket On-Shore Social Events and awards presentation times and locations, if held, will be posted in advance of the regatta on the Official Notice Board and via race communications.
8. VENUE
8.1 The venues are Hyannis Yacht Club, Hyannis, MA, and Nantucket Boat Basin, Nantucket, MA. The regatta will be held in Nantucket Sound, beginning in the vicinity of the Hyannis Port jetty and concluding in the vicinity of the entrance to Nantucket Harbor.
9. COURSES
9.1 The courses to be sailed are described in the Sailing Instructions. The courses are subject to change per the sailing instructions.
10. DOCKAGE
10.1 For slips or moorings in Hyannis, entrants are responsible for making arrangements directly with either Hyannis Yacht Club: 508-778-6100 or Hyannis Marina 508-778-4000
10.2 For slips in Nantucket, entrants must send a completed Figawi Nantucket Boat Basin Form found on yachtscoring.com directly to NBB with payment. Instructions are on the form.
11. PRIZES
11.1 Prizes will be awarded to the top 4 finishers in each division

12. CLEAN REGATTA and NANTUCKET BY-LAWS
12. 1 Figawi Inc. is committed to maintaining Cape Cod’s clean waters and shores. Nantucket Harbor is a “no-discharge” harbor. The Boat Basin offers slip-side pump-out facilities at all three wharves. To schedule a free pump-out please call the Boat Basin Office. Nantucket by-laws also prohibit the discharge of graywater. Graywater is defined as wastewater from sinks, showers, laundry and galleys. When washing your boat, Nantucket bylaws require that you use only environmentally safe, biodegradable cleaning products.
12.2 Household waste must be contained in transparent plastic bags. Non-transparent bags are not permitted in Nantucket.
13. RESPONSIBILITY, LIABILITY, & MEDIA
Competitors participating in the FRW events do so entirely at their own risk. The race organizers, Figawi Charities Inc, Figawi Race Committee, Figawi Board of Directors, Hyannis Yacht Club, Nantucket Island Resorts, Nantucket Boat Basin, volunteers, sponsors, agents, employees, or any other organization or official providing services at the request of any of the foregoing in connection with the events will not be responsible or accept any liability for material damage to any boat or other property or personal injury sustained as a result of participation in this event. By participating in this event, each competitor (owners, captains, skippers, crews, spectators) agrees to release the race organizers and all persons and groups listed above from any and all liability associated with such competitor’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13.1 Specific attention is directed to the following Fundamental Rules:
RRS 1.1 Helping Those in Danger
A boat or competitor shall give all possible help to any person or vessel in danger.
RRS 3 Decision to Race
The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.
13.2 The Captain/Owner/Charterer accepts all responsibility for the conduct of his/her crew including those in possession of any related weekend event bracelet or ticket registered to the Captain/Owner/Charterer. Conduct complaints will result in restrictions from entering future events associated with Figawi and Nantucket Boat Basin.
13.3 Figawi Charities Inc. owns all media and commercial rights to the official Figawi Race Weekend events. Competitors will further grant to FRW the unrestricted and perpetual right to use and publish any information, text, and images arising from the official events of FRW. Figawi Charities, Figawi Race Weekend, FRW, and the Figawi logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Figawi Charities Inc. All Rights Reserved. Use is prohibited without permission.

Please fill out and mail the Figawi Nantucket Boat Basin form (RACE DOCUMENTS on yachtscoring or figawi.com) with FULL payment to Nantucket Boat Basin, the address is on the form. NOTE: Please bring your own SPLITTER for hooking up to power. NBB has a LIMITED amount to rent. We ask that you don’t FLOOD NBB with requests via phone; instead, include them on the form. Only FIGAWI ENTRANTS will be permitted to request a slip in the boat basin during the event wknd.
2023 PHRF-NE HANDICAP APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED AT WWW.PHRFNE.ORG. Completed ratings can be found on the VALID LIST on phrfne.org.
